π§ Neuralink's Mind Control
Published 4 months agoΒ β’Β 4 min read
As technology advances we're moving closer to a race of hybrid humans.
When you think about it though, we might be there now.
One could argue that the smartphone is an extension of most people's body already.
Maybe the real question isn't when, but if we'll notice when it happens.

Neuralink Patient #2 π§
Last month, a second participant (Alex) underwent surgery to have Neuralink's "Link" chip installed. Less than 24 hours after the surgery, Alex was discharged and began doing some pretty incredible stuff with his new brain implant!
Alex broke the previous world record for brain-computer interface (BCI) cursor control on day 1 of using the Link.
Better yet, Alex used his mind to control Fusion360 (CAD software) to build a custom mount for his Neuralink charger. It was then 3D printed and put into use. There's also a video of Alex playing Counter Strike using his mind!
In the first human Neuralink experiment, researchers noticed that after a few weeks the threads from the chip retracted from the brain. This retraction led to a net decrease in effective electrodes and overall performance. This second attempt implemented a number of mitigations such as reducing the brain/interface gap. So far Alex has seen no thread retraction.
Neuralink are working on adding features such as multiple mouse clicks, simultaneous movement intents, and handwriting.
Ps. The Neuralink PRIME study is a clinical trial for quadriplegics only (paralysis affecting all four limbs.)
Over the weekend I got access to a new generative 3D tool called Cartwheel. Using a text prompt, just like all the other gen AI tools we're used to, Cartwheel allows you to generate 3D animations.
Cartwheel is perfect if you animate characters in programs like Unreal Engine and O3DE. The animations are also compatible with Blender, Cinema 4D, and more! Great for combat clips, NPCs, and cut scenes.
Alternatively, you can just create some cool animations for social media!
Last week I shared this documentary on a Blockchain/Artificial Intelligence project known as Bittensor. For anyone who didn't want to spend a full hour watching it, I thought it might be useful to give you a quick rundown on the project.
Bittensor is a network, similar to Bitcoin, that offers access to a decentralized network of machine learning models. The network incentivizes computational resources and machine learning expertise and innovation.
While tech giants like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google are dominating the market, Bittensor is trying to even the playing field. It's aiming to put the power of AI into the hands of the many, not just a select few companies with deep pockets.
Bittensor has a range of "subnets", each a unique ecosystem of its own. There are subnets for translation, data storage, image generation, prompting, and more. Subnets can be interconnected, allowing the output of one to serve as input for another, which can translate into a very powerful model or app.
If you're an AI researcher, developer, or entrepreneur with big ideas but limited resources, Bittensor might be right up your alley.
It's an interesting experiment that could help us avoid relying on the heavily diluted models currently controlled by the tech giants dominating AI.
Best AI YouTube Channels πΊ
If you're anything like me, most of your meals are eaten in front of YouTube. π Here's a few of the best AI focused YouTube channels that'll help you get smarter while being entertained.
βMatt Wolfe: Great channel for keeping up to date with AI as well as practical tutorials and hands-on demos.
βWesGPT: WesGPT has a bunch of unique strategies for making money with AI. If you're looking to get a side-hustle going using AI, this is the channel for you.
βAI Explained: Makes complex AI subjects accessible to everyone through clear explanations and illustrative visuals.
βTwo Minute Papers: Creates short and easy to understand videos of the latest breakthroughs in AI research. Lots of cool animations to help communicate complex topics.
βTina Huang: Tina shares unique insights from her experience as a software engineer and data scientist. Great if you're interested in learning unique ways you can use AI in everyday life.
Cursor's conversational interface guides users through code planning, breaking down complex projects into manageable steps. You can simply tell the AI what you're trying to build and get started.
It also features code prediction capability, which completes current lines and anticipates entire blocks of code across your project. A massive time-saver for people with existing coding experience.
If you ever want to build a web app, mobile app, or piece of software, it's now within your reach with the help of AI and Cursor.
If you want to give it a shot, Cursor are offering a free 2 week trial.

There's an emerging trend putting intelligent AI into closed systems and observing the behaviors. Given the rate AI systems can adapt, it's possible we might just learn a few things about our own civilization. And even our destiny. It also makes me wonder, are we as humans being observed on Earth in our own little closed system?
